Day 3:  The Power of “Full Range of Motion”

TRANSCRIPT:

Strength training isn’t just about lifting weights – it’s about moving well. And that means working through the full range of motion your body has available, so you build strength in every position. Over time, as you practice moving well, that range will improve – and with it, your strength, mobility, and confidence.

So, what is Full Range of Motion? Let’s talk about it. (And a heads up, this is also something you’ll simply see written as the acronym, ROM, for “range of motion”.)

Think of your full range of motion like using all the space your body has in a movement – not stopping short. In a squat, that might mean lowering your hips as far as your mobility allows, while keeping great form, on a given day. In a push-up, it could mean aiming for a little more depth – as in, the chest closer to the floor – each time, rather than staying in the range that feels easiest.

The goal isn’t to force a position, but to gradually explore more range as your body allows.

So, why does this matter? When we only work in the ranges where we already feel strong, we leave a lot of potential untapped.

Think about hiking. Ever had to step up onto a big boulder with one leg? Your knee moves into deep flexion as you push your entire body weight up before your other foot even hits the ground. Are you strong there? Have you trained for that position, or have you only worked your knee flexion in small, comfortable ranges?

If we never train those deeper positions, they can feel weak or unstable when we actually need them. But when we strengthen those “end ranges”, we build resilience, improve mobility, and protect our joints from injury.

This is what makes strength training carry over into real life – so you’re not just strong in the gym, you’re strong everywhere.

Let’s put this into practice. Today, we’re focusing on moving well and meeting your body where it’s at. No forcing. No rushing. Just controlled movement that helps you build strength through more range over time.

Let’s get into it!
